The AD8361 is an average responding power detector, suitable for high-frequency receiver and transmitter signal chains up to 2.5 GHz. It's really easy to use—most applications just need a single supply voltage from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, a decoupling capacitor, and an input coupling capacitor. The output is a DC voltage with a linear response, with a conversion gain of 7.5 V/V RMS. You can also add an external filter capacitor to increase the average time constant. The AD8361 is mainly used for true power measurements of simple and complex waveforms, and it's especially good for signals with a high peak-to-RMS ratio, like CDMA and W-CDMA. It has three operating modes to support different ADC requirements: - Grounded reference voltage mode, where the source is zero. - Internal reference voltage mode, which biases the output 350 mV above ground. - Provided reference voltage mode, which biases the output at VS/7.5. The AD8361 operates in a temperature range of −40°C to 85°C and comes in 8-pin MSOP and 6-pin SOT-23 packages. It's made using a proprietary high-fT silicon bipolar process.
