A heritage name in microwave design
MACOM descends from M/A-COM, one of the oldest names in microwave and RF components. Parts are often labelled either MACOM or M/A-COM depending on the date of manufacture — they are the same company, and the same part numbering logic.
The families worth knowing
- MA4P series — silicon PIN diodes for switches, attenuators and limiters (e.g. MA4P161-134, MA4P7447-1141T).
- MA4PH series — higher-power PIN diodes and switch elements (e.g. MA4PH235-1072T).
- MAAM series — amplifiers and gain blocks for receive and transmit chains.
- Various amplifier, mixer and control parts used in radar, EW, SATCOM and test equipment.
Why MACOM parts are different to source
Much of the MACOM catalogue targets aerospace, defence and high-reliability applications. That has three consequences for buyers:
- Production runs can be long and irregular, so stock appears in bursts.
- Many parts are obsolete while still required for repairs and legacy platforms.
- Documentation and traceability matter more than price — always ask for a Certificate of Conformance.
Verifying high-reliability parts
For defence-grade or microwave power devices, insist on: correct date code, consistent lot, X-ray inspection for die and package integrity, and — where budget allows — third-party electrical or XRF testing. A supplier who welcomes inspection is worth ten who resist it.
Sourcing MACOM / M/A-COM
The Shenzhen spot market is a practical source for MACOM PIN diodes, amplifiers and hard-to-find microwave parts — provided you buy from suppliers who can show real goods and provide traceability.
