Small components, enormous volume
Murata is best known for passive components, and in RF that means filters, diplexers, inductors, capacitors and baluns — the small parts that decide how clean your spectrum is. They are inexpensive individually, but every board needs them, so they are always in demand.
The RF families
- SAW and BAW filters — sharp, compact filters for specific bands (mobile, GNSS, Wi-Fi).
- Ceramic filters (DLP / DFC series) — low-loss filters and diplexers, e.g. the DLP0QSA series, used for band separation.
- RF inductors and capacitors — matching networks and tank circuits.
- Baluns — converting between single-ended and differential RF.
Reading a Murata part number
Murata part numbers encode the series, size and specification. In the DLP0QSA350HL2D example: the DLP prefix identifies the ceramic filter/diplexer family, the following digits encode the body size and electrical variant, and the trailing characters denote tolerance, packaging and termination. Always confirm the full suffix, because the same base part can ship in different packages with different specifications.
Choosing the right filter
- Need sharp rejection? A SAW or BAW filter gives steeper skirts than a ceramic filter in a smaller footprint.
- Need low insertion loss and higher power? Ceramic filters typically win.
- Separating two bands? A diplexer is a matched pair of filters and saves board space.
Sourcing Murata RF parts
These parts are high-turnover, so the spot market carries them in mixed date codes and packaging. Confirm the exact suffix and the RoHS status, and buy from a supplier who can show you the actual reel or bag.
