COSINE MOSFET Gate Drivers and 600 V High-Voltage Gate Drivers

Switching power efficiently is mostly about driving the gate fast and cleanly. Too little gate current and the MOSFET lingers in its linear region, heating up; too much and you add ringing and EMI. This guide covers MOSFET gate drivers and 600 V high-voltage drivers from COSINE (科山芯创) we stock.

1. MOSFET gate drivers

These buffers supply the peak current the gate needs, with defined logic thresholds and drive strength.

2. 600 V high-voltage gate drivers

Half-bridge and full-bridge supplies need a high-side driver with a bootstrap supply. These parts cover the 600 V class.

Selection checklist

  • Calculate gate charge and your target switching time to size peak current.
  • Decide low-side versus half-bridge from the topology.
  • Confirm the driver supply and input logic match your controller.
  • Check the bootstrap capacitor and dead-time handling in your layout.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a MOSFET gate driver at all?

A MOSFET gate is a capacitor. To switch quickly you must move charge into and out of it fast, and a microcontroller pin cannot. A gate driver is a buffer that supplies the peak current, so the MOSFET spends as little time as possible in its linear region, which limits switching loss and heat.

What is the difference between a low-side and a half-bridge driver?

A low-side driver switches an N-channel MOSFET to ground. A half-bridge (high-side/low-side) driver switches a high-side MOSFET whose gate must be driven above the supply, which needs a bootstrap or charge-pump supply that IRS2184 and IRS2113 class devices integrate.

How much peak current do I need from the driver?

Divide the gate charge by your desired rise time to get the average current, then choose a driver with peak rating comfortably above that. Under-driving the gate causes slow switching and extra loss; over-driving can stress the gate.

Are these COSINE parts drop-in replacements?

They are designed against the pinout and function of the referenced devices. Confirm package, pinout and voltage ratings on the datasheet for your application before volume commitment.
