Skyworks has one of the broadest RF portfolios in the market, and the parts most often requested are the switches, PIN diodes, attenuators and limiters that sit around the receiver front end. This guide groups the families we stock and explains what each one is for.
1. RF switches
Solid-state switches route the signal between paths. The specifications that matter are isolation, insertion loss, P1dB and switching speed.

| SKY13575-639LF | RF switch, Skyworks SKY series | SKY13575-639LF |
| AS179-92LF | SPDT RF switch, broadband GaAs | AS179-92LF |
| AS169-73LF | SPDT RF switch, broadband GaAs | AS169-73LF |
2. PIN diodes for switching, attenuation and limiting
Current-controlled RF resistance, and the standard answer when you need to handle real power or build a discrete switch or attenuator.

3. Limiters and control devices
Receiver protection and PIN-diode control parts, used where a front end must survive a strong nearby transmitter.

4. Fixed attenuators
Simple, broadband level reduction for calibrating a path or protecting a receiver input.

| ATN3580-02 | Fixed attenuator pad | ATN3580-02 |
| ATN3580-03 | Fixed attenuator pad | ATN3580-03 |
Selection checklist
- Define the band, then check insertion loss and isolation at both ends of it.
- Check P1dB and maximum input power against your worst-case transmit level.
- Match the control voltage and logic to the driver you have.
- For PIN diodes, budget the bias network and its current.
- For limiters, confirm the clamping level and the recovery time your receiver can tolerate.

Frequently asked questions
What is a PIN diode used for in RF design?
A PIN diode behaves as a current-controlled resistor at RF: forward bias gives a low-resistance path, reverse bias gives a high-resistance one. That makes it useful for switches, attenuators and limiters, and it handles far more RF power than a small MMIC switch. The trade-off is that it is slower and needs bias current.
What does an RF limiter do?
A limiter protects a sensitive receiver front end from a strong signal by clamping the level before it reaches the LNA or mixer. PIN-diode limiters such as the CLA4606 class are common in radar, test equipment and any receiver that might see a large nearby transmitter.
How do I choose between a fixed attenuator and a digital step attenuator?
Use a fixed pad for a known, permanent level reduction—it is simple, broadband and cheap. Use a digitally controlled step attenuator when the level must change at runtime for calibration, automatic gain control or testing, and accept the extra control interface and cost.
Can these parts be sourced when they are obsolete?
Yes. Sourcing obsolete and hard-to-find RF components is a core part of what we do. Send us the full part number including the suffix, the package, the quantity and any date-code or testing requirement, and we will come back with availability and a quote.
